Dress Made Before Work

So... Still on Task.. outfit a day:

 Made the Earrings... 11:00 AM

Have to be at work at 1:00

Forcing myself to cut out a dress....

Was a hit for the day!... and this was a fabric no one wanted... a pique type knit... soooo soft and comfy...

Standby pattern... just a front and back and a scarf made from the strip left over on the side...

Gray flower is made from the raggy selvage of a light gray poly chiffon.... and I had some photo scrapping dodad that I glued in the middle of the flower.

Made Dress and Jacket Before Work

Okay,

These cardigans are getting really fast.  Only turning under the edges and top stitching... Front pieces

Back Piece on Fold and then Sleeves.... No facings...   Got it down pat how to fold the top edges of the front for a self facing and then after doing the Jacket, I pulled out the dress material from a bin and just cut out the front and back on the fold and zip ...zip.... no facing just turn under the neckline and top stitch..... done... Okay, I did the earrings first as usual... out of the dress material....

Earrings to motivate me to do it... remember covered buttons of any size without the shank can be made to earrings by gluing an earring back on... pierced backs and clip backs are available at the store in the button area.... and pin backs if you want to make a pin with the same fabric as background and add little items..

Scarves were a little different today... I took the edge like I did on the blue cotton gauze jacket and on the orange scarf turned the selvage out so it made a fringe around the scarf... I took the same fabric as the jacket and just cut a strip of the leftovers and made a tube with the ends slanted and did the same a little shorter on the dress fabric so I could layer them as an accessory with my usual crazy little pins pinning them to the cardigan so it could flow with the cardigan as I walked.

I thought the little fringe around the orange scarf would add a little something and make it stand out as a separate scarf from the jacket.  Got a couple of compliments and made it all right before I went to work.

and of course I work Some bangles that were orange and black and gold with a couple of faux tennis bracelets...

I really don't like to work, but I love dressing up!.... come see me at G Street Fabrics in Rockville...   I have 'time' for you...

if you come by ask me if I have 'Time' for you, that is a whole nother adventure..LOL

So outfit of the day on Monday!   Orange was the color of the day..

Jungle Bag In Use

Remember the old post bag in January where I was making a Jungle Bag.  Yes, I look at the fabric too much when these things pop into my head.

Here is one of the things I made in use..Ha Ha... When the baby came I had no idea if I would ever see her use it... but here we are... 5 months after she came into the world and I was babysitting and got out the jungle bag... She now sits up and plays with her toys in the floor... Worth every stitch to see her look at the animals..  Especially the Hippo.. she was fascinated with it's teeth and she had two come up in the front so they were especially funny together.

Jungle Bag
The Jungle Started witht his giraffe, made of upholstery material and minky hooves.
The animals then sort of multiplied!

I love that I saw them in action!  Seems like yesterday when I was just waiting for her arrival and thinking up this crazy stuff!

Outfits a day and still Sewing

Yes, I might not blog every day but I am still sewing:

I made earrings out of the dress fabric and wore some red and black bangles... Got a few compliments out of this, so it seemed to work-Made the red cardigan right before work!

This outfit I had the pants (20 minute Tubins) and The shirt Cotton batik with machine embroidery around tunic top, sleeves and bottom edge - made the cardigan before work this day - see raglan edges on sleeves?- ran out of fabric piece that came from 2.97 'Treasure Hunt' Room... so I banded and put the selvage out so it looked like I did it on purpose.  Scarf of same material... intertwined two scarves added rings and beaded bracelet on scarf tie for accessorizing.  A little over the top but got compliments all day!.. Must of worked or just looked ridiculous!

Okay... I liked this one... made the cardigan before work added to outfit already made...

I like it better on the hanger for you to see...

Free Flowing Cardigans

Butterick   B5045---Love this Jacket for Comfort and Grace

Shorten the jacket for different looks

Tonight I am making some different color cardigans...
Red, Orange, Teal, Navy Blue Eyelet, Beige Gauze and different lengths...

The Navy blue eyelet was a smaller piece so I had to shorten it by 9 inches to fit on the piece of material.  The lengths in this pattern - long is good for a floor length dress jacket.  4 inches made it good with pants, so I will try the 9 inch shorter to see if that is long enough to disguise my back view and still give the elongated front of the jacket.  I will sew this one first, then the teal, red, orange, and beige.  The hardest part for me is making me cut them out.  The navy one is cut out.  I  will make the earrings, then I will sew the eyelet cardigan.  Seemed to work... got a couple of compliments on the eyelet.
Not enough fabric for the sleeves had to band them with the raggy selvage out..? something different!

I have a drape neck shirt that I have cut the front piece out and I just have to do the sleeves and back and back neck facing.  If I sew these two items, that is an outfit for tomorrow.  If I sew the red gauze jacket, I can wear that with my black white and red dress - Friday Night.  If I do the Beige one, I can wear that with the black and Beige silk shirt and pants-Saturday.  Soooooooooo, here goes....

Inspiration for the Day!

Thank You for Coming to the Store!

I love it when someone notices an outfit I wear and my matching earrings and feels inspired.  I am quite ordinary pushing 70 years and need all the inspiration I can get.  This makes me appreciate inspiring someone else, as we all need something to look forward to doing, or going, or being.

I have a bucket list like anyone else of things I will probably never have happen.  On my bucket list there are things that I can make happen, but the little things are what get me up in the morning and doing something that will make me smile all day.  So for you who made me feel good when you met me, I am doing this blog of Inspiration.

First a picture of a typical start of inspiration of the day:

So, yes I post slogans on my wall to inspire me.... and

I have a little round table next to my bed.

I made a tablecloth of my favorite first thing of the morning..... COFFEE

I added some placemats to protect it from random glue drops, scratches and 'coffee'.

Everyone needs a pair of needlenose pliers that also have a cutting edge in the inner middle-preferably a little toolbox with random tools for making tiny things when you don't have time for the large ones... a coffee pot(got mine at the thrift store)... earrings ... some out of fabric so you will make the outfit out of the rest of the fabric....  maybe a pair you got off of ebay that matches fabric in a bin to make you use that fabric... An old dead watch that you glue a pinback to and wear as a joke for the day-this one happens to be a barbecue at THE SIMPSONS watch.....  I don't watch the simpsons... Just one of many dead watches I bought in a box so I could make pins out of them...

A coffee mug that when you drink that first cup of coffee says MAKE IT HAPPEN...  You can make your own coffee mug say whatever will make you do what you want.... go to ZAZZLE.com and make your own Inspiration.

Yes.  First a CUP of coffee.... perusal of my STUFF and make something... even if it is small.... I am still on an outfit a day.... I have to be at work at 12 noon or 1:00  Till 9:00 or after ----   Most days.

Those were yesterdays inspiration!

First make the earrings!

Those were... matching the jacket... matching the shirt... I made both and here it is...

Picked these Earrings to wear... Then made the shirt...

So I made this cardigan and this shirt and went to work.  Unfortunately I only bought was was there of this blue gauze and it was not enough to do the sleeves to this jacket so I Banded the sleeves putting the raggy selvage out on the banding edge... thanks to those who complimented my improvising.

The shirt or blouse was my usual drapeneck pattern with a little length like a longer.

If I can find a strip or two strips I can sew together, I make a scarf such as this one...  sew together make a tube and sew the end in a slant... I sew the tube using  an opening in the middle so I can flip it fast and I don't even sew the opening closed, it will be at my neck in the back....pssssst don't tell anyone!

The day before I had a piece of Navy eyelet,  also not big enough, but wanted a jacket so I folded the pattern in at the front so I could fit it on and shortened the length by 9 inches....  Here is what I got!

I made only the eyelet jacket before work this time, I had the navy pants and the shades of blue earrings and shirt with infinity scarf needing the matching jacket!

Nothing to do-need socializing? instead of just coming to see me at G Street Fabrics... Go to Meetup.com and put in your interests and find a group to go to dinner with or discuss books with or even sewing...   or just come by G Street and see what is new in the 'Treasure Hunt Room'

Okay, you might not want to be this person...but- at one time I actually led a meetup group.  I was meeting a group of strangers for an internet meetup group in a Panera - so what better way?  How many purple hat chicks would they find?....  The dress and scarf was one of my creations and this was a kayaking group so I temporarily hand tacked some little plastic kayaks on the hat- yes, matching earrrings of the same fabric.
